Stewart Scores 75th Anniversary Triumphs at Limaland
July 23, 2010 Lima, Ohio: For 75 years, there has been high level competitive motorsports on the exact location that presently marks Limaland Motorsports Park. Track officials honored that tradition with the 75th Anniversary races and the action that developed was in keeping with the great legacy. It took three proven performers to prevail in the face of tough fields and a near record warm day. Engine Pro NRA Sprint Invaders were back following the Kings Royal weekend. Although former NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Tony Stewart won both features at his own Eldora Speedway, the Stewart surname was able to stay at the front with defending series champion J.R Stewart smoking Friday’s field.
The polesitter Hud Horton controlled the opening action until fifth year driver Jared Horstman got above the cushion and rattled the front straight wall after four laps. The restart saw outside row two starter Stewart stormed to the top and blow past Horton to lead. Despite the quality of the field, Stewart literally checked out. There was some exciting action behind Stewart with fellow front row starter Ron Blair, NRA point leader Butch Schroeder and Tim Hunter in a pack for the final ten circuits. Blair took runner-up and Hunter moved from row five to the third and final podium finish.
“The track was really fast tonight,” said Stewart after a second NRA win and first at Lima this season. “All we had to do was get into the lead and run like heck. You just have to make sure lapped cars are keeping their lines. I was told I had a big lead but you drive like Butch was right behind me. We changed a couple of shocks since hot laps and that was all we’ve done to the car.”
The next green flag at Limaland Motorsports Park will be for the Fricke Memorial thunder stock select on Friday, July 30. Elwer Fence sprints and K&N UMP modifieds will also compete at the high banked quarter-mile speed plant. Spectator gates open at five with hot laps at 6:30 and the full program at 7:30pm.
