5/13/2005 El Paso,TX (Speedway Park) BILLY HARRIS 780
by Gary Jacob
After a third place heat finish, Jimmy Harris wheeled his unique #780 winged 305 sprint car to a feature win Friday night at El Paso Speedway Park and took over the early season track point lead in the process. He is just one tally in front of John Carney Jr, who fought engine problems to finish fourth behind runnerup Shawn Sander and third place Mike Wells.
A season high 27 cars were in action. The large field was divided into four heat races and the 24 car feature was made up of the top four from each heat and 8 transfers from a B Main. Don Grable beat opening night winner Mike Archuleta in heat 1 and J Carney Jr won heat 2 over Sander. M Wells outraced Richard Wilbee and J Harris in heat 3 and veteran Ted Lee won heat 4 over double division racer Royal Jones and Leith Labrado. M Wells added the dash win ahead of Lee and J Carney Jr. Laboe Labrado won the B Main with legend car graduate Lamar Skarda second ahead of young Brandon Schure, Bobby Yarborough and Ismael Garcia. The large 24 car feature saw J Harris picking off the win.
J Harris is one point ahead of J Carney Jr after three point races with Billy Roy Harris another 11 points back in third. Alvarado is just one point further back in 4th, just one ahead of M Wells.
