*Danny Smith Steals Victory and Points Lead at Lernerville*
SARVER, PA (6-5-07) The O’Reilly All Star Circuit of Champions made an
unusual Tuesday night appearance to take on Ed Lynch Jr. and the tough
Lernerville locals as the series visited Western PA for the first time
this season. There were 36 cars and stars on hand as Greg Wilson looked
to add to his series point lead, but it was Danny Smith who came out on
top when the night was done. Smith trailed Wilson by just 13 points
going into the event and managed to finish 11 spots ahead of Wilson as
he took the checkered flag and the win.
Brian Ellenberger lead the first 30 laps of the 35 lapper, but
mechanical problems sent him backward through the pack with just a
handful of laps to go until he finally came to rest on the front stretch
where he had hoped to be doing his victory lane interview. Ellenberger
ran strong all night on what is considered to be his home track being
from nearby Butler, PA. He was able to hold off several charges by Smith
with Rod George, Ed Lynch Jr., and Dale Blaney making a beeline for the
front of the pack.
Smith would take the lead on lap 30 as Ellenberger began to drop back
and it was clear sailing from there until the final lap charge by Rod
George who nearly took the victory away from Smith. George would have to
settle for second. Third was Ed Lynch Jr., fourth was Dale Blaney, and
Brian Paulus rounded out the Top Five.
Smith is on a 3 race win streak as he picked up the last two regular
event features at K-C Raceway in Chillicothe, OH. “Its always good to
get a win,” said Smith from victory lane. “We built up some confidence
at K-C with a few wins. Tonight we just had a good car and a good night.
We just do the best that we can each night and we’ll count up the points
at the end of the season.”
Veteran Lernerville racer and Huggins Cams Fast Qualifier of the night
Ed Lynch Jr. said “Smith did a great job tonight. There was a good race
going on in front of me and I had Blaney coming fast behind me. I just
had to hold on for third place tonight.”
